At this year’s “Schweisstec” trade fair in Stuttgart, the diversified technology company 3M
is presenting advanced personal protection equipment for the metalworking industry in Hall 6, Booth
6104. The focus is on the enhanced range of new premium 3M Speedglas 9100 Series Welding Shields.
3M customers will also benefit from a specially developed maintenance concept for Speedglas Welding
Shields, which includes regular maintenance of the welding shields and associated 3M Adflo
respiratory protection products.
New Generation Enhanced with FX Feature
The successful range of premium 3M Speedglas Series 9100 Welding Shields has now been extended
with the 9100 FX, 9100 FX Air and 9100 Air models. The new models have been enhanced with the “FX”
function, where FX stands for FlexView, designating the flip-up mechanism of the shield’s filter
assembly, beneath which there is an additional clear, wide-view grinding visor. When using
conventional products not equipped with flip-up mechanism, the welder usually tends to raise the
whole welding shield immediately after the welding arc extinguishes, or even take it off entirely,
which leads to two undesirable side effects. One is that the welder often just “nods down” the
raised shield with a jerk of the head before beginning the next welding operation. This puts
significant strain on the muscles and vertebrae of the neck. The second is that when the welder
needs to grind the workpiece after welding is finished, this is often done without putting on extra
protective eyewear, which involves a very high risk of eye injuries. With the FX welding shields,
these undesirable side effects no longer occur. The welder’s work becomes safer and more
comfortable.
FX Air Models Combine Perfectly with Respiratory Protection
The new Speedglas 9100 Series Welding Shields are now available also combined with two
industry-proven 3M respiratory protection systems: the 3M Adflo Powered Air Turbo and 3M Fresh-air
C Supplied Air respirator systems. Both solutions produce an overpressure of clean breathing air
inside the sealed welding shield, which effectively and reliably ensures TH3-rated respiratory
protection. The eye, face and respiratory protection of these complete systems plays an even
greater role with the FX flip-up models – full protection is still maintained even when the filter
is flipped up for grinding work!
On-Site Service
Heat, moisture and dirt are the detrimental factors to which Speedglas products are regularly
subjected. To make welding work as safe, productive and hygienic as possible, also under cost
aspects, 3M, with its many years of competency in the development of long-lasting welding safety
equipment, supports users through a professional service concept: certified, authorized service
partners come with a fully equipped vehicle directly to the customer’s site to perform regular
maintenance work on Speedglas products, and inspect workers’ personal protective equipment.
Alternatively, customers can send their Speedglas products to the partner’s workshop for regular
maintenance.
